Did you know ?  It is not until 1934 that Levis Strauss commercialises its first jeans aimed at women. Indeed the company realised that many women often borrowed their husbands or brothers 501 jeans especially in the rough west of America, inventing the boyfriend jeans fashion before its time! The first set launched was the Levis 701, but a mail order catalogue, Ario, dating from 1939 offers a style for the ladies called 501L. Slim jeans are not really fashionable then! To avoid them shrinking in the wash, styles are sanforised. It is not until the 60's that Levis launches a slimmer style, introducing at the same time stretch fabrics.
